Bay District Schools Superintendent Bill Husfelt was nationally recognized for his hard work Saturday [May 12, 2019].
He won Superintendent of the Year at the 2019 Varsity Brands School Spirit awards.
There were hundreds of entries for the award from all over the country.
The award show was held in Orlando Saturday night.
In a comment, Husfelt said, "I was extremely honored to accept this award on behalf of Bay District Schools. We’ve always been a district with a strong tradition of school spirit and school pride but there’s no doubt that those sentiments really became evident after the devastation of Hurricane Michael. Our students, parents, teachers, administrators and support staff did everything they could to bring our school system back online as quickly as possible and that’s a testament to their determination and the 'normalcy' that school brings to a community. To be able to gather together, like we did, at a community football game so soon after the storm was a wonderful experience and clearly it caught the attention of a lot of people. That school spirit, which is really our community spirit, says so much about who we are and who we continue to be as we rebuild #850Strong."
